DESCRIPTION OF OLD COLORADO CITY
Properties in Old Colorado City Colorado were established in 1859 and designated the first capitol of the Colorado Territory in 1861, It is the oldest established city in the Pikes Peak Region. It was annexed to the city of Colorado Springs real estate in 1917 and restored as Colorado Springs’ only historic district in 1977. It is very close to Manitou Springs, Garden of the Gods, and Kissing Camels.
Early settlers included farmers, ranchers, freighters and outfitters for the people who rushed to the gold mines, west in the mountains. The town became famous for its many saloons and brothels located on the south side of Colorado Avenue which were visited by many of the upstanding gentlemen from the north side of the street through various tunnels under the street. The hardworking “respectable” residents were more proud of their schools, Carnegie Public Library and churches however.
Today you can stroll the brick sidewalks, under shady trees along the avenue with 100 year old buildings providing the perfect backdrop for an exciting mix of unique cafes, restaurants, galleries, boutiques and specialty shops. Old Colorado City is truly a remarkable, shopping and dining experience just minutes from Garden of the Gods, the Broadmoor Hotel and downtown Colorado Springs. We offer the finest restaurants, art galleries, boutiques and specialty shops that Colorado Springs, Colorado has to offer!

| Remember the VIctorian Era? |
Most of the homes in this region were built in the early 1900’s and have a Victorian-era façade. Some of the houses have a garage, but it is not uncommon for there not be one. Many of the homes on Colorado Avenue have been turned into commercial properties.
TERRITORY DAYS
Territory Days commemorates Old Colorado City as the first capitol of the Colorado Territory in 1861. It seemed fitting that the first festival in 1976 was the same year as Colorado's centennial and America's bicentennial celebrations. Territory Days has grown from a small neighborhood craft fair into a three-day street festival which now hosts over 150 craft, commercial, and food booths. Between 80,000 and 140,000 guests, (depending on the weather), enjoy this event every Memorial weekend.
Visitors can eat everything from buffalo burgers to Greek salads, fresh lime and orangeade, roasted corn on the cob, turkey legs and some of the best barbeque around, as they visit a variety of unique craft booths up and down Colorado Avenue. From the beer garden you can watch people riding mechanical bulls, and listen to some of the best entertainment Colorado has to offer.
