The McAllister House Museum is centrally located at 423 North Cascade Ave. It was built by one of the founders of Colorado Springs, Major Henry McAllister, a decorated Civil War veteran. The home has furnishings from 1873 and was restored by the National Society of Colonial Dames. It is also registered with the National Register of Historic Places. The Carriage House and garden areas are available for private parties.
Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum brings together the history and culture of the Pikes Peak region. There are over 40,000 objects to view and permanent exhibits that show how life used to be in the area. Furthermore, the musuem is home to the Starsmore Center for Local History. The collections include photos, diaries, newspapers, scrapbooks, and photo albums from early settlers.

Downtown Colorado Springs offers quaint shops and businesses. If you stroll down Tejon St, you will encounter restaurants, theaters, gift shops, and popular night spots. There are also museums, night clubs, restaurants, gift shops, and Acacia Park. During the summer, Acacia Park runs the Uncle Wilber Fountain is popular with the kids. On a hot day, children can cool off with over 200 unpredictible streams of water to run and sit in. There are also summer concerts available with many different kinds of music.
