BLACK FOREST, COLORADO
Black Forest Colorado real estate was named by a German Immigrant who thought that the dark hue of the Ponderosa Pine very closely resembled "The Black Forest" in Germany. This Colorado Springs real estate area encompasses over 200,000 acres and is Northeast of Colorado Springs. Some of Black Forests subdivisions include Pine Cone Acres, Black Forest Reserve, Forest Green, Woodlake, Wildwood Villageand Cathedral Pines. It is heavily wooded with some open grassland areas, primarily on the southern boundary, and is characterized by mostly 5 acre and larger lots in a rural setting. The area abounds in wildlife, and horses are a common sight. The elevation varies from approximately 6500-7800 feet. Due to the higher elevation, snow tends to stay on the ground longer than in Colorado Springs, especially in the wooded areas. In the summer, it is not uncommon for the area to be 5-10 degrees cooler than in town. Although the area is rapidly growing, the population is estimated to be a little over 13,000.
Most homes are on at least 1 acre of land. The age of homes varies from the early 1900's to today. It is not uncommon to have an older home next to a brand new build. Several newer subdivisions in the area include Flying Horse Ranch, Forestgate, Cathedral Pines, and High Forest Ranch. There are 3 school districts in Black Forest--district 38, 20, and 49.

All of the participants must live in Black Forest. The Saturday after Thanksgiving is always the annual Christmas Lighting ceremony complete with Santa riding in on the Black Forest fire engine.
